The proposed Remotte (with two t’s) is a remote control for Google Glass.
Yes, it has come to this: Someone thinks you need a remote control for your glasses.
To be fair, the user interface for Glass is relatively limited: You can talk to it (by saying “OK Glass” followed by a command) or you can stroke the touchscreen along the temple. For moments when either of those modes would be obtrusive or rude, I suppose, there’s the Remotte.
Now you just have to decide whether it looks rude to be fiddling with a remote control held openly in your hands (or, worse, hidden in your pants pocket).
The Remotte has what looks like two touchpads: One circular and one linear. You can use the control to start videos, swipe through messages, or otherwise control Glass.
The device will connect with your Glass via Bluetooth. It also contains an accelerometer, a gyroscope, an altitude sensor, and a temperature/humidity sensor.
There’s an open development interface (API) so the makers hope that people will also create apps so you can use it with a smartphone, tablet, or connected TV. All those embedded sensors sure will come in handy when you’re standing on the lip of a mountain canyon, wondering whether or not the weather makes it safe for you to launch yourself on a parasail into the clouds below.
The company says it is “currently testing Remotte.” If you want to try it out, there’s a form you can fill out to request one. There’s no indication what the Remotte will cost or when it will be available.
